Retreat One: Getting Acquainted - An Introduction to the Leadership Academy Concept (two half days, one full day): October 22-24, 2008-The Elms Hotel, Excelsior Springs
Following ice breakers, participants will get to know each other. Through a unique personality assessment process, they’ll identify their personal communication strengths, gain tips about how to work as a productive team, and begin to develop ideas for a “class project.” By the close of the retreat, the leadership class will have a clearer understanding of the profession, the REALTOR® organization, and the concept of leadership.
Retreat Two: A Day at the Capitol (two half days, one full day): January 21-23, 2009-Capitol Plaza Hotel, Jefferson City
In addition to Leadership Academy sessions, the class will participate in MAR’s Capitol Conference and experience the MAR committee/board of directors’ process. Highlights will include presentations about political issues as they affect the real estate industry, Capitol visits, and MAR’s Capitol Conference Reception. The class will also attend MAR committees, the Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors meetings.
Retreat Three: Communication (two half days and one full day): April 22-24, 2009-Cedar Creek Conference Center, New Haven
Emphasis will be on effective communication, conflict resolution, communicating with members, media spokesperson training and practical tips for making impromptu speeches. The class will continue work on the class project.
Retreat Four: Ethics and Decisions (two half days and one full day): July 22-24, 2009-Stoney Creek Lodge, Columbia
Through a series of interesting exercises, ethical decision making will be examined. There will be a discussion about ethical decisions REALTORS® must make in their profession and within the organization. Other topics of current interest in the real estate industry will be discussed.
The class will finalize its project.
Retreat Five: Wrap-up: September 30-October 2, Tan Tar A Resort, Osage Beach
The final retreat will be held during the MAR Fall Business Conference. It will include a wrap-up, motivational speeches and a graduation ceremony, at which time the class will present their project to the MAR membership.
